Judge’s Wife’s Connection to Controversial Charges Against Don Lemon
The judge who dismissed charges against Don Lemon for his involvement in disrupting church services has a wife who serves as an assistant attorney general, working under Attorney General Keith Ellison.
According to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, three individuals tied to the anti-ICE protest at St. Paul’s Church were indicted on Thursday.
Many anticipated that the former CNN anchor would also face charges related to the protests, but sources reported that a magistrate judge did not authorize the charges.
This magistrate has been identified as Judge Douglas Mikko, whose spouse, Caitlin Mikko, is employed in Ellison’s office, as detailed in several reports.
Lemon contends that he was acting in his capacity as a journalist while protesting against Immigration and Customs Enforcement, with the church’s senior pastor allegedly connected to the ICE leadership.
Activist attorney Nekima Levi Armstrong noted that the pastor’s role with ICE posed a “fundamental moral conflict” with his church duties.
Armstrong stated, “I cannot lead a congregation while commanding an institution that is committing acts that have taken lives and terrorized our community.” She also mentioned that, “When authorities protect armed agents and dismiss legitimate investigations into serious crimes, that’s not justice; it’s intimidation.”
There may still be avenues for the administration to pursue the prosecution of Lemon.
One source indicated that Bondi was “furious” about the magistrate’s ruling.
Lemon’s attorney, Abby Lowell, released a statement defending his actions: “The magistrate’s behavior reinforces Mr. Lemon’s role as a First Amendment-protected reporter during the protests in Minnesota. His actions were consistent with his three decades in journalism, reporting on significant events while engaged in constitutionally protected activities.”
Blaze News attempted to reach out to Ellison’s office for comment but did not receive an immediate reply.
Bondi criticized the protests at the church in a social media post, emphasizing, “Religious freedom is the foundation of this country. We will protect our pastors, our churches, and Americans of faith.”
