Kaia Gerber Reflects on Her Unique Upbringing
Kaia Gerber opens up about her seemingly ordinary childhood as the daughter of renowned supermodel Cindy Crawford.
At 24, Gerber describes her upbringing as “pretty isolated,” but in a “really great way.” She shares that things were “as normal as possible.”
“I always went to public school. I was involved in theater, participated in community plays, joined the choir, and took part in singing recitals and dance,” she elaborated.
While she acknowledges her upbringing was “book-heavy,” there was something unique about her home: it was adorned with nude photographs of her mother. Gerber explains that, for her, these images were artistic rather than vulgar or objectifying.
She views it as “a homegrown gift of no shame for a woman’s body.”
Her life took a different turn at age 15 when Donatella Versace selected her for her first children’s clothing campaign. It was then that Gerber decided to transition to homeschooling, following in her mother’s modeling footsteps.
The actress, currently starring in “Palm Royale,” noted that she never felt spoiled by Crawford.
“She rarely gives advice unless asked,” Gerber mentioned. “But if you do ask, prepare yourself—she tends to say things that are tough to hear. It’s frustrating because she’s usually right, but she lets me make the same mistakes she did 30 years ago.”
By the age of 16, Gerber made her formal runway debut, subsequently walking for prestigious fashion brands like Chanel, Versace, and Prada.
Crawford recently shared her thoughts with FOX News Digital at the 2nd Annual WWD Style Awards, discussing the best advice she’s given her kids.
“The best thing I can tell my children, regardless of whether it’s modeling or any other job, is to be punctual,” the supermodel stated.
The 59-year-old also touched on how she maintains her confidence as a model. “Honestly, I think much of it feels like cheating. But if you’re content in your life and have a job that fulfills you, confidence comes easier. When someone once asked how I manage to walk the red carpet, I told them—sometimes you don’t feel confident, but once you’re out that door, it’s your choice, so just go with it.”
Crawford added that having lived in her community for years and reconnecting with old friends also brings her joy.
