The Lafayette Police Department reported the arrest of five individuals following a shooting incident that injured Judge Stephen Meyer and his wife, Kimberly, at their home on Sunday. Among the suspects, one was set to face trial shortly in the same court where Judge Meyer presided.
Those taken into custody include Thomas Moss, 43, Blake Smith, 32, Amanda Millsap, 45, from Lafayette, Indiana, as well as Raylene Ferguson, 38, and Zenada Greer, 61, from Lexington, Kentucky. Fortunately, the couple is in stable condition.
Apparently, the shooter knocked on the couple’s door around 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, announcing, “I have your dog,” before opening fire, according to audio evidence gathered by investigators.
On Monday, authorities discovered that Smith had bought a firearm matching the one used in the shooting, with part of the serial number found on the weapon. Smith, reportedly a “high-ranking member” of the Phantom Motorcycle Club’s Indiana chapter, is associated with Moss, who has a history with the Vice Road gang. Prosecutors indicated that Smith is also part of the Phantom club.
Interestingly, both Moss and Smith were awaiting trial under Judge Meyer, with Moss due to appear just two days after the shooting. His charges dated back to 2024 and included several counts related to domestic assault and possession of firearms.
According to previous court records, Moss has a concerning history. Allegations from June 2024 involved physical abuse against his ex-wife, who reported he had threatened her and exhibited violent behavior. In another incident in October 2022, she claimed to have fired a gun in an altercation involving their son, with police discovering multiple bullet holes in their home.
To complicate matters, Moss’ ex-girlfriend alleged that Millsap offered her $10,000 to refrain from testifying against him and the gang at an upcoming hearing. With a significant criminal record—including charges for shooting and recklessness—it seems Moss’s background raises many questions.
As the investigation unfolds, many details remain murky, and it’s unclear what may happen next in the case surrounding this shocking incident.
