Frustration Over Anti-ICE Sentiment in Minnesota
Lara Trump recently commended red states for their collaboration with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). However, she expressed discontent with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for fostering anti-ICE attitudes.
During an interview, Trump highlighted a recent incident where ICE agents and Border Patrol personnel were confronted while simply stopping at gas stations. “If they truly cared about their voters, they would work alongside federal law enforcement,” she remarked, criticizing Walz and Frey for what she sees as their neglect of public safety.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently accused both leaders of not cooperating with law enforcement efforts. Secretary Kristi Noem pointed out that around 10,000 undocumented immigrants have been detained by federal agents in Minneapolis, accusing Walz and Frey of attempting to shield criminals. She noted that the area operates as a sanctuary jurisdiction, leading to local law enforcement disregarding federal immigration policies.
DHS has urged local leaders to respect the legal process concerning detained immigrants. Trump, hosting her show, cited successful collaborations between local and federal authorities in other areas, saying they lead to crime reduction and enhanced community safety. In her words, “Instead, you have leaders like Mayor Frey and Governor Walz escalating tensions, preventing law enforcement from effectively doing their jobs.”
Protests against federal authorities have surged in Minneapolis, especially following a significant fraud case uncovering extensive criminal activities. Federal agents have since made numerous arrests in Minneapolis and nearby St. Paul, which included actions affecting Somali residents.
Trump expressed her astonishment at the Democrats’ obstruction of law enforcement operations while neglecting issues like financial fraud, which has resulted in substantial losses to taxpayer money. It raises, she thinks, the question of their priorities and motivations.
