Minnesota Businesses Shut Down to Object to ICE Actions as Salaries Rise

Various news outlets seemed to align with local businesses and those breaking the law, overlooking the needs of American families who require better wages to thrive.

A recent article from the Minnesota Star Tribune mentioned that a strike aimed to “show support for immigrants targeted by federal agents.”

This comes amid a significant fraud scandal involving the Somali community in Minnesota.

In an opinion piece for Restaurant Business, Jonathan Mays discussed how local Minneapolis-area restaurants are adapting during ICE operations and their impact on business.

With a reduced workforce, restaurants may have to resort to raising wages to attract employees. Over the next two years, wages are anticipated to rise from 3.7% this year to 5.6% by 2027, as stated by Oxford Economics. This trend will also affect food production industries, leading to a more competitive hiring landscape and potentially higher prices for meat and vegetables.

In contrast, it’s noted that President Trump’s immigration policies have positively influenced wages for Americans.

Breitbart News reported that the Dallas Fed indicated in October that Trump’s deportation policies are pressuring Texas employers to increase wages for workers, focus on hiring Americans, and invest in productivity-enhancing technologies.

Neil Munro from Breitbart remarked that Trump’s focus on productivity demands more from CEOs, executives, investors, politicians, and educators, moving away from relying on taxpayer support and low-wage immigrant labor.

He added that Trump’s earlier policies require intellectuals to grasp immigration economics and recognize a pro-business perspective, as evidenced in the Dallas report, which pointed out concerns over rising wages for American families, tied to “weaker labor market prospects without immigration.”

Meanwhile, Vice President J.D. Vance noted in November that Trump’s policies have contributed to an increase in wages for Americans, estimating an average raise of about $1,200 per person.

“Job growth is favoring U.S.-born Americans,” he stated, contrasting it with the Biden administration, where most job creation seemingly benefited foreign-born individuals.

“What stands out about the Trump economy is that American jobs are going to American workers for a change, and that’s something I take pride in,” Vance added.
