Dolphins Appoint Bobby Slowik as New Offensive Coordinator
The Miami Dolphins have finalized their choice for the new offensive play-caller, following the dismissal of head coach Mike McDaniel.
Bobby Slowik, previously the senior passing game coordinator, has been promoted to offensive coordinator on Jeff Hafley’s newly formed staff. Slowik played a significant role in C.J. Stroud’s development, which notably took off in 2023 and 2024.
After being let go by the Texans post-2024 season, Slowik joined the Dolphins and worked with quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Quinn Ewers throughout the previous year, both of whom are expected to contend for the starting position next season.
Now, with Slowik on board, Miami has bolstered its coaching staff further by adding Chris Tabor as the special teams coordinator. The two have a history, having crossed paths in San Francisco between 2017 and 2018, where Slowik served as the defensive quality control coach while Hafley was in charge of the defensive backs.
Meanwhile, other teams, like the Eagles, are still hunting for candidates to fill their offensive coordinator spots.
During his tenure with the Texans, Slowik was integral to Stroud’s success, helping him to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year title and rank among MVP contenders, with impressive stats of 4,108 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and only five interceptions.
This accomplishment garnered Slowik considerable interest for head coaching positions, leading to interviews with teams such as the Commanders, Falcons, Titans, Panthers, and Seahawks. However, he eventually returned to Houston, only to be fired after witnessing Stroud and the offensive line underperform.
It’s worth noting that the Jets had also considered Slowik last offseason before opting for Glenn.
Now, he faces the challenge of revitalizing a Dolphins offense that recorded the seventh-fewest yards per game (300.7) and eighth-fewest points per game (20.4) this past season. This offensive struggle contributed to the team’s disappointing 7-10 record, which saw Tagovailoa benched and led to McDaniel’s dismissal, ultimately resulting in Slowik’s elevation.
“I believe we’re ready,” remarked head coach Hafley, who previously worked as the Packers’ defensive coordinator, during his introductory press conference. “Of course, I’ll learn as I navigate this role as a first-time NFL head coach. That’s just part of life. But I’m committed to surrounding myself with great talent and doing my very best. If I make a mistake, I won’t repeat it.”
“I feel prepared to take on this challenge,” he concluded.
