Angel Reese shares 'Praying for our country' following Minneapolis shooting.

Chicago Sky player Angel Reese shared a post on X on Saturday, saying, “Praying for our country.” While she didn’t elaborate, her message came in the wake of intense national debate following a shooting incident involving a border patrol agent in Minneapolis.

Reese generally stays away from political discussions but expressed her disappointment after Donald Trump’s win in the 2024 election.

In a separate post, she mentioned feeling “speechless” upon waking up and expressed her sorrow for America, questioning why some people can’t let go of their pride. Her remarks reflected a sense of frustration, particularly as a woman feeling the weight of current events.

The incident involved Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, who was shot during a law enforcement operation targeting Jose Huerta-Chuma, an undocumented immigrant with a criminal history, including domestic violence.

According to Homeland Security, Pretti, armed with a 9mm handgun, reportedly resisted efforts to disarm him. Medics attempted to help, but he was declared dead at the scene.

Following the shooting, approximately 200 protestors gathered, leading to altercations with the police. The Minneapolis Police Department called for calm, urging citizens to avoid the area and stay informed through official social media channels.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara noted that an “unlawful assembly” had formed at the shooting site, advising individuals to steer clear of any gatherings. He emphasized the need for federal agencies to act with humanity and discipline, calling for peaceful behavior in such tense situations.

As tensions ran high, especially since the controversial shooting of Renee Nicole Good by ICE agents earlier in the year sparked major protests across the country, the police sought support from surrounding towns to manage an influx of emergency calls. There was even coordination with the fire department to address a couple of small fires in the vicinity.
