Noem supports the deadly Minneapolis shooting and criticizes Minnesota Democrats for encouraging 'violence'

Noem Defends Federal Agents in Fatal Shooting Incident

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem spoke out in defense of federal agents involved in the shooting of an armed protester in Minneapolis. She claimed the individual had been waving a gun in a misguided attempt to impede “targeted” arrests of individuals identified as criminal immigrants. Noem also pointed fingers at the Democratic leadership in Minnesota for the situation.

According to Noem, a Border Patrol agent fired a “defensive” shot after 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Preti approached him while brandishing a 9mm semi-automatic handgun during a tense situation on Saturday morning. “Officers tried to disarm this individual, but the armed suspect reacted violently,” she explained at a Saturday night news briefing.

“They attempted to take the weapon but faced violent resistance. Fearing for his life and that of his fellow officers, the agent discharged his weapon. Medics arrived quickly on the scene, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead right there,” Noem said.

She noted that besides the handgun, Preti had two magazines loaded with numerous rounds of ammunition and lacked any form of identification.

Interestingly, although Noem suggested the gun was illegal, Minneapolis police indicated that Preti was, in fact, a legal gun owner with a permit.

According to the police chief, this incident seems to reflect an intention to cause harm to law enforcement, suggesting that the individuals present were potentially looking to inflict widespread injury.

Federal officials claimed that Preti stepped in while agents were attempting to arrest Jose Huerta-Chuma, whose past includes charges such as domestic assault, disorderly conduct, and driving without a valid license.

The tragic event was recorded from various angles, leading to an unruly crowd forming shortly thereafter. Federal law enforcement responded by deploying tear gas multiple times to disperse the protests.

Noem described how the demonstrators were hurling objects at federal vehicles and yelling at armed officers, an attempt she claimed was aimed at obstructing and assaulting law enforcement agents. In a notable incident, she said one Homeland Security employee suffered a severe injury, losing a finger during the chaos.

“It’s vital to recognize that this tragedy didn’t need to occur,” Noem asserted, directing her criticism towards Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, accusing them of inciting unrest through their ongoing negative dialogue regarding federal enforcement efforts.

“Our law enforcement agencies are committed to safeguarding the public. While we extend our condolences to the friends and family of the deceased, it’s important for Minnesota’s leadership to reflect on their role in this situation,” she concluded.
