Actress Natalie Portman criticized officials from the Trump administration on Saturday, shortly after a gunman was shot dead by federal agents in Minneapolis amid an operation targeting illegal immigration.
Speaking at the Sundance Film Festival, the Oscar-winning actress expressed her concerns, saying, “What’s happening in our country is shaped by the federal government, particularly the Trump administration, Kristi Noem, and ICE…”
She continued, “What they’re doing is truly the worst of humanity.”
Reflecting on community actions, she noted, “The way people support and protect each other, the way Americans stand up against injustice, is truly the best of humanity.”
Portman stated, “I’ve never felt prouder to be an American when I see people’s actions, yet I couldn’t feel sadder when I consider our government’s behavior.”
Pop star Olivia Rodrigo also weighed in on the matter through her Instagram Story, stating, “ICE’s actions are unconscionable, but we are not powerless. Our actions count. I stand with Minnesota.”

Crowds filled the streets, engaging with federal agents as they attempted to manage the situation.
According to Breitbart’s Bob Price, what started as a gathering of bystanders soon turned into confrontations, with some blocking roads, surrounding vehicles, and forcing federal agents to adopt defensive positions as unrest grew.
Breitbart News’ AWR Hawkins reported that the violence started after federal agents shot and killed an armed individual near a local donut shop. Officials indicated that the agents were “conducting a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien suspected of violent assault.”
Reports suggested that the man had approached law enforcement with a 9mm handgun prior to the incident.
