Judd Apatow Calls for Action Against Trump Administration
Hollywood producer and director Judd Apatow is urging his fellow left-leaning individuals to step up their efforts in opposing President Donald Trump and the government’s actions regarding illegal immigration.
During an appearance at Sundance, Apatow expressed his frustrations about the current state of America, particularly criticizing the left for not doing enough to counter these issues.
“I’m not sure we can fix every problem we face today,” Apatow remarked at the Variety Studio presented by Audible. “But it’s essential for everyone to find a way to get involved, awaken their conscience, and champion the values that truly represent this country. What’s unfolding is just awful and contradicts everything we stand for.”
He continued, “There’s this odd normalization happening where people think, ‘I’m going skiing today, so I guess ICE isn’t creating chaos for everyone.'” Apatow emphasized the need for Americans to think beyond short-term comfort and to engage actively, even if it means making sacrifices for the greater good.
Earlier this year at the Golden Globe Awards, Apatow harshly criticized the U.S., labeling the situation as one akin to a “dictatorship.”
His remarks were partly a reflection on his film experience as he pondered about train accident, which missed out on the Best Picture nomination a decade ago for the Musical or Comedy category against Martian. “I’ve been a beef-eater since that film,” he humorously noted, adding, “It’s all in the past now.” He acknowledged the pandemic that has since changed the world, but despite views of current governance, he remains focused on space exploration themes.
At the DGA Awards last year, Apatow also voiced his discontent with the country’s direction post-Trump’s election, stating, “We’re a mess.” He jokingly introduced his new pronoun as “We’re extreme.”
“It’s likely some of you here supported Mr. Trump. I don’t hold that against you, and I won’t judge. But let’s just say, God might,” he added, before turning his criticism towards Tesla CEO Elon Musk, quipping, “If you own a Tesla Cybertruck, take care of yourself in the parking lot.”
