This year’s Super Bowl LX promises to be a spotlight not only for two major NFL teams but also for players who emphasize their faith in Jesus, both in their personal lives and on the field.
The matchups for the Super Bowl were determined last weekend. Seattle triumphed over the Los Angeles Rams with a close score of 31-27, while New England edged out Denver 10-7. The championship game will take place on February 8 in Santa Clara, California.
Both teams feature a number of players who are vocal about their Christian beliefs.
Here are seven of those players.
Drake May (Quarterback, New England) – In just his second season, May led the Patriots with impressive stats: 4,394 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and only eight interceptions, holding the top spot for completion percentage (72.0) and passer rating (113.5).
“I think the most important aspect is to use my platform to share good news,” he shared. “In my career, I’ve really aimed to inspire both younger and older generations to explore faith, showing it’s accessible to all.” He added, “Finding purpose and having a passion has been a huge learning experience for me. My passion is football, and my belief is fundamental.”
Ernest Jones IV (Linebacker, Seattle) – Jones, with 126 tackles and 5 interceptions this season, is seeking his second Super Bowl win, having previously won one with the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021-22 season. In a viral postgame speech, he spoke powerfully about his faith.
“This year has been challenging, and I felt like something was missing. What it really was, was God,” he told his team after being awarded the game ball for his two interceptions. “I knelt down to pray, and I saw the bigger picture—my faith in Jesus Christ and being with my family.”
Treveyon Henderson (Running Back, New England) – Henderson had a stellar rookie year, amassing 911 rushing yards, nine touchdowns, and 221 receiving yards. He’s known as one of the league’s most vocal Christians.
“Before I met Jesus, I struggled with my identity outside of football, but He revealed my true self to me,” he explained. “I am grateful for this new identity and purpose to live for Him, and not for temporary things like fame or money.”
Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Wide Receiver, Seattle) – This two-time Pro Bowler led the NFL with 1,793 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, aiding the Seahawks in reaching their first Super Bowl in a decade.
“Growing up in faith has been crucial for me,” he revealed. “It provides a strong foundation. Leaning on God, allowing Him to handle my worries, is truly the best feeling.” He reiterated his gratitude after the NFC Championship win, saying, “I just want to give all the glory to God. I’m here thanks to Him.”
Hunter Henry (Tight End, New England) – In his 10th year in the league and fifth with the Patriots, Henry notched 60 receptions for 768 yards and seven touchdowns, starting every game.
“I play to glorify God,” he stated. “These abilities come from Him, and I see my time on the field as a way to express that worship.”
Cooper Kupp (Wide Receiver, Seattle) – In his first season with Seattle after eight years with the Rams, Kupp came in second on the team with 593 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
“God has been with us every step of the way,” he expressed regarding his family. “We’re grateful for this opportunity to play but recognize the temporality of it all. We aim to shine His light and follow His will every day.”
Josh Dobbs (Quarterback, New England) – Although Dobbs played only sparingly this season, completing 7 of 10 passes, he is still hopeful about the Super Bowl experience ahead.
“My relationship with Jesus is everything,” he underscored. “Everything I strive for, I attribute to Him and my upbringing. I believe in the power of prayer and try to let my faith guide me in all circumstances.”
