Holocaust Museum Responds to Immigration Comparisons
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum has made a clear statement condemning politicians who draw parallels between the situation of undocumented immigrants in America and the atrocities endured by Anne Frank during the Nazi era.
While they didn’t mention Minnesota Governor Tim Walz specifically, it’s known that he recently made such a comparison in a speech criticizing the actions of the Trump administration.
“Using the Holocaust for political reasons is profoundly disrespectful, especially when anti-Semitism is escalating,” the organization stated. They further emphasized that “Anne Frank was persecuted and killed solely for being Jewish. There will be zero tolerance for leaders who misuse her experience for their agendas,” they declared in a social media post.
The museum added, “Exploiting the Holocaust is deeply offensive, particularly at a time when tensions are rising in Minneapolis and anti-Semitic incidents are on the rise.”
On a related note, Governor Walz called for action after a notable incident involving the shooting of anti-ICE activist Alex Preti in South Minneapolis, which occurred just a day prior. “President Trump, we can resolve this now. Bring back federal troops and implement humane immigration controls,” he urged.
Walz continued, “We need collective support. Let’s follow the needs of our law enforcement to ensure Minnesota remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.” He also mentioned the fears that are affecting children in Minnesota, expressing concern that many are staying indoors due to safety worries.
Reflecting on the impact of Anne Frank’s story, Walz noted, “We all remember reading about Anne Frank as kids. Eventually, someone will tell a story about Minnesota, and right now, one person holds the key to that narrative.”
Many have been frustrated by the attempts to link immigration officers to Nazis, especially amid rising tensions, leading some to call for a more measured approach in discussions.
The White House Rapid Response Team issued their own reaction, labeling Walz as “a truly disturbed and unstable person.”
However, following a call with President Trump, it seems that Walz may be willing to work collaboratively on Minnesota’s issues. Trump commented on their conversation, revealing, “Governor Walz reached out to me, and we found ourselves on the same page.”
“I communicated to Governor Walz that we’d like to collaborate. [Border czar] Tom Homan also spoke with him about seeking out various criminals they currently have,” Trump added, indicating ongoing discussions between the two.
