Tennessee mayor faces off against Democrats over Planned Parenthood Facebook comment

Heated Exchange in Hamilton County Over Family Planning Comments

Mayor Weston Wamp of Hamilton County, Tennessee, recently found himself involved in a contentious online dispute with local Democratic leaders. This situation erupted after a comment on his Facebook post about his family prompted strong criticism and led to a public political confrontation.

The incident began when a user commented on a holiday photo from Wamp’s family with a remark about the need for family planning, implying a connection to his children. Wamp responded by sharing a screenshot of the comment, expressing how such remarks highlighted a disconnect with the values of Hamilton County.

In a follow-up, Wamp shared another screenshot showing a post from Kathy Lennon, a former vice chair of the Hamilton County Democratic Party. She described attending a “campaign crash course” hosted by Planned Parenthood over the weekend. Wamp criticized this association, suggesting it symbolized a low point for local Democrats.

Wamp characterized the differing views within the community by stating that the images he referenced reflected “two very different visions for Hamilton County’s future.”

In response, the local Democratic Party issued a statement expressing disappointment in Wamp’s choice to amplify what they termed a vague online comment, branding it as a political stunt rather than addressing real issues affecting the community. They pointed out ongoing infrastructure problems in Chattanooga and accused Wamp of focusing more on social media drama than delivering tangible results.

As of now, Wamp hasn’t publicly replied to requests for comment regarding the situation.
