West Virginia Librarian Arrested for Alleged Threat Against Trump
A librarian from West Virginia has been taken into custody on allegations of attempting to recruit individuals via social media to harm President Trump.
Morgan L. Morrow, a 39-year-old from Ripley, was apprehended after posting a TikTok video claiming, “There’s no way a terminally ill sniper should be charged 343 million yen,” as outlined in the criminal complaint.
This content was interpreted as an endorsement for the assassination of Trump, leading to Morrow’s indictment on a charge of making terroristic threats.
An employee at the Jackson County Public Library, Morrow was detained at home and reportedly confessed to law enforcement that the TikTok video was meant as a threat directed at Trump.
The complaint also notes that Morrow provided “personal reasons” for wanting to cause harm to the president, though it doesn’t elaborate further.
Interestingly, while Morrow claimed he had no personal intention to execute the threat, lawmakers argued that such statements were crafted to incite or encourage others to commit threatening acts, irrespective of the speaker’s intentions.
Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger commented, “When you ride a stupid horse, you have to be prepared for what’s to come.” He emphasized that threats like these are unacceptable, no matter the political context.
“We’re just trying to do our part to prevent this plan from being carried out, and we’re hopeful that no one will follow this example,” Mellinger added.
In response, Jackson County Public Library officials released a statement indicating that they were addressing the situation internally. They noted that the recent comments from the employee do not align with the library’s mission or values.
