Mohamed Toure’s Extended College Football Journey
Many people have often said college is the best time of your life, and Mohamed Toure seems to be making the most of it.
This Miami Hurricanes linebacker, who is currently a graduate student according to the official Miami Athletics site, is reportedly hoping to return for the 2026 season. It would mark his eighth year in college football after already playing for seven years.
Toure started his college career at Rutgers in 2019, where he redshirted. The following year, he earned the chance to play, but then faced setbacks in 2020, 2022, and 2024 due to COVID-19 and two torn ACLs, which left him with a few more years of eligibility.
For context, Toure’s Hurricanes narrowly lost in last week’s national championship game, falling to No. 1 Indiana and finishing the season with an impressive 16-0 record—except for that 27-21 defeat.
After transferring to Miami before the 2025 season, Toure became a crucial part of their defense, notably leading the team with 84 tackles. Quite a few of those tackles occurred during title games, which is no small feat.
Interestingly, his teammate Carson Beck has drawn some attention lately for candidly admitting that he graduated two years ago but “didn’t take classes” during that time. Beck, who came from the University of Georgia, mentioned that at Miami, he’s working on other degrees that, unsurprisingly, take a bit longer than a year to complete.
He remarked, “Obviously, I won’t be re-enrolling next semester. Once this season is over, it’s over.” Pretty straightforward, huh?
Barring any unexpected changes, Toure’s 2026 season will likely be his last. He’ll be about 25 years old by the end of his college career if he plays through late January again. That certainly adds an interesting angle to his journey.
