Isiah George Assigned to AHL Bridgeport

On Tuesday, Isiah George was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport, paving the way for the Islanders to welcome newly obtained defenseman Carson Soucy. This information comes from the NHL’s media site.

During his brief time with the Islanders, George played in only two games. In one of those games, he recorded an assist on a goal by Mathieu Barzal, contributing to the Islanders’ 4-0 win over Philadelphia.

Last season, he participated in 33 games and appeared poised to take on a significant role this year. However, unfortunate injuries have plagued him throughout the season.

While the Islanders needed to replace both Alexander Romanov and Marshall Warren, George was recovering from a couple of injuries. Other players like Travis Mitchell and Cole McWard were available for call-up during that period.

Once he regained his health and performed well enough in Bridgeport, general manager Mathieu Darche opted to look for external help, bringing in Soucy to fill Romanov’s position for the rest of the season.

George, having cleared waivers, made his release rather straightforward unless the team was prepared to place Ryan Pulock on injured reserve. Pulock has been struggling with an upper-body injury, and putting him on IR would rule him out for the upcoming game against the Rangers.

Since the NHL has abolished paper trades, George will need to participate in at least one game in Bridgeport. The next match is scheduled for Friday before he can receive another call-up.

It wouldn’t be shocking if George finds himself back in the NHL sooner rather than later. His ability to play on either side of the ice makes him a likely candidate to step in if an injury situation arises, or if Pulock is out for an extended period.

Releasing George suggests that Pulock may recover soon. If Pulock isn’t ready for Wednesday’s matchup against the Rangers, the Islanders will face a tougher challenge without an extra defenseman.

While playing at home usually mitigates some concerns, managing player transitions from Bridgeport to Long Island remains a consideration in the decision-making process.

The Islanders did not practice on Tuesday.
