Drake Maye speaks on rumors regarding his shoulder injury before Super Bowl 2026

Focus on Recovery for Maye Ahead of the Super Bowl

As the season draws to a close, there’s no room for injuries to hinder progress.

Drake Maye, the quarterback for the Patriots, addressed any concerns about a possible right shoulder injury sustained during New England’s 10-7 victory over the Broncos in the AFC Championship game on Sunday. He’s now setting his sights on the 2026 Super Bowl.

When asked if this could limit his preparation for such a big moment in his career, he chose not to elaborate.

“I’m feeling good. I’ll be taking some time to rest,” Maye stated on WEEI Tuesday. “Honestly, I don’t believe it’s from the game itself. It might just be the accumulation from training camp—throwing nonstop for about 30 weeks, almost every day of the week. But some extra rest should help, and I’m ready for the Super Bowl.”

This time of year is often filled with strategic gamesmanship, and his condition is certainly something to monitor as they get ready to face the Seahawks on February 8.

Maye did grab at his shoulder in the third quarter after a tough tackle, yet he performed well throughout the game.

“Just some bumps and bruises, but that comes with the territory,” he remarked post-game. “I know many guys in the locker room are dealing with their own issues. But the good thing is we have another shot—we get two more weeks to recover…”

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was cautious when discussing Maye’s injury status during a Tuesday radio segment.

“No one on our team is completely healthy,” Vrabel said, responding to speculation about Maye’s condition during WEEI’s “Greg Hill Show.”

He continued, “We’ll keep an eye on the injury report, and if necessary, we’ll submit it. But nobody’s at 100 percent. This will be our 21st game.”

If Maye faces any issues beyond minor aches, he has one more week to get ready for what could be a historic game for the Patriots, aiming for their seventh Super Bowl title without Tom Brady.

Despite an impressive regular season that could have earned him NFL MVP accolades, Maye has struggled in the postseason.

He’s completed 43 of 77 passes (about 55.8 percent), tallying 533 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Interestingly, the Seahawks have been named 4.5-point favorites by FanDuel over Maye’s team.

“I’m excited to step out there and prepare for the Seahawks,” he shared.
