Deion Sanders Sets Strict Penalties for Players at Colorado Buffaloes

Deion Sanders is taking a serious approach as he prepares for the upcoming 2026 season with the Colorado Buffaloes. He’s introduced some hefty fines for players who break the team’s rules. For instance, being late to practice now comes with a $500 penalty, while skipping practice incurs a steep $2,500 fine.

Sanders announced these fines last week, which were also highlighted in a video shared by his son on their YouTube channel. It’s clear that these penalties are unrelated to the recent trends surrounding name, image, and likeness deals in college football, focusing instead on compliance with team regulations.

One particular rule targets how players present themselves, specifically concerning team gear. Players who transfer are strictly forbidden from sporting T-shirts or sweatshirts from their former teams.

In a rather illustrative point, Sanders commented on the issues with this practice, likening it to a person wearing their ex’s clothing. “That’s disrespectful,” he remarked. “What do you think about that? You’re dining with us but still representing your last team. If you wanted to remain there, you should have stayed.”

Additionally, other fines are in place, such as $2,000 for not attending a meeting or movie, and $400 for tardiness. Players may also face fines of $1,500 for missing practice and $1,000 for being late. There’s even a rule about public misconduct or inappropriate behavior on social media, which can result in fines of up to $5,000.

Aside from financial penalties, Sanders has emphasized the importance of maintaining a respectful environment, including a ban on profanity outside specific settings and a strong call to respect women.

The upcoming season marks Coach Prime’s fourth year with the Buffaloes, kicking off on September 5th with a road trip to face Georgia Tech.
