Patrick Reed’s Return to the PGA Tour

Patrick Reed is making his way back to the PGA Tour. The former Masters champion made the announcement on Wednesday, expressing that he won’t be heading back to LIV Golf. Instead, he plans to compete again as a past champion member of the PGA.

“I’m a traditionalist through and through, born to play on the PGA Tour. That’s where my wife Justin and I started our story,” Reed mentioned in his statement.

He shared his gratitude for the opportunities he’s had, stating, “I’m very lucky with the opportunities that have come my way and grateful for the life we’ve built. Moving forward in my career, I’m eager to compete on the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour. I can’t wait to revisit some of the best places on Earth.”

The PGA Tour announced that Reed would be eligible to participate in events starting August 25 this year and could fully return for the 2027 season.

Reed joins Brooks Koepka as the first significant golfers to return to the PGA Tour after their stints with LIV Golf. Like Koepka, Reed won’t be able to access player equity programs until 2030.

Interestingly, during a recent event, Reed mentioned he hasn’t signed a contract with LIV Golf for the next season, which raised some eyebrows.

Koepka is set to start at the Farmers Insurance Open, marking his return to the PGA Tour.

Meanwhile, Reed plans to continue playing on the DP World Tour to improve his standing for the 2027 PGA Tour season. Notably, he finished seventh or higher in the LIV rankings in three out of four years he played on Dustin Johnson’s 4-Aces team.

Kevin Na and Hudson Swafford have also applied to return to the PGA Tour, according to reports. Reed, now 35, expressed his gratitude to golf fans everywhere. “I would like to thank all golf fans around the world for your continued support over the years. We ask that you respect the decisions we have made for our families, our children, and our future. Thank you for your continued support.”
