Trump Administration Puts Agents on Leave Following Alex Pretti Shooting

Investigation into Minnesota Shooting by Federal Immigration Agents

The Department of Homeland Security has detained two federal immigration agents as inquiries continue regarding a recent shooting incident. A spokesperson for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed that the officers involved in Saturday’s mass shooting in Minnesota have been placed on leave.

At the center of the incident was 37-year-old nurse Alex Pretti, who is believed to have interfered with federal immigration operations during the deadly confrontation. “The two officers involved are on administrative leave. This is standard procedure,” the CBP spokesperson stated.

Pretti, armed with a semi-automatic handgun, confronted a Border Patrol agent trying to execute an enforcement operation in Minneapolis, resulting in a tragic outcome. This shooting marks the second fatal incident involving federal immigration agents in the city; the first was the death of Renee Good earlier this year, after she allegedly crashed her car into an ICE agent.

Initially labeled a “domestic terrorist,” Pretti’s categorization has since been retracted by officials. Reports suggest that Border Patrol Commander Raj Gregory Bovino, who oversaw a significant increase in immigration enforcement in Minnesota, has been demoted and ordered to leave the state.

In the wake of these events, public backlash has intensified, with some Democratic lawmakers in Congress threatening to halt government operations unless substantial reforms are made. Additionally, calls for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have gained momentum over the shooting.

President Donald Trump has sent Tom Homan, the head of the administration’s deportation program, to Minnesota. He also shared that he had a productive conversation with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, noting that they appeared to align on collaborative efforts moving forward.

“It was a very good meeting. In fact, we seemed to be on the same wavelength,” Trump said, recounting his discussion with the governor. “I told Governor Walz that I was going to have Tom Homan call me and that what we’re looking for is any and all criminals that they have in their possession. The governor respectfully understood that and I’m going to talk to him soon.”
