Florida Suspends Nurse’s License After Controversial Comments

The Florida state authorities have suspended the license of a nurse who expressed a desire to treat Caroline Leavitt’s birth-related injuries. State Surgeon General Joseph A. Ladapo issued the emergency suspension for Alexis Bakker Lawler, a registered nurse in Florida.

Florida Attorney General James Usmeyer took to social media to commend the decision, stating unequivocally, “Starting today, Lexi Lawler will no longer be allowed to work as a nurse in Florida.”

In a rather concerning incident, Lawler, who was employed as a labor and delivery nurse at Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital, was terminated after she shared a video expressing her wish for Leavitt to suffer severe injuries during childbirth. In the video, she reportedly said, “As a labor and delivery nurse, I am very happy to be able to pray for Caroline Leavitt’s fourth-degree rupture.” She further added, “I hope you tear it apart from bow to stern and never do anything normal again.”

Usmeyer emphasized the ethical boundaries that should never be crossed by healthcare professionals, remarking, “Any statement that wishes someone pain or suffering is an ethical line that should not be crossed.” He expressed pride in the decisive action taken by the Surgeon General.

Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital also released a statement clarifying that Lawler’s remarks “do not reflect our values or the standards we expect from our healthcare professionals.” Meanwhile, Usmeyer previously urged the Florida Board of Nursing to take action against Lawler, indicating that “women should not have to worry about having a political nurse in the delivery room who wants pain and suffering during childbirth.”

As of now, Lawler has chosen not to comment further on the matter.
