Body of Illinois Woman Found in Storage Container

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released a video commemorating an Illinois woman whose remains were reportedly hidden in a storage container and treated with bleach by undocumented immigrants. This case has raised significant concerns, particularly since the accused was initially free until federal authorities caught up with him.

Megan Boss’s body was found by officers from the Waukegan Police Department in April 2025. She was reported missing about a month earlier and was located in a shipping container on the property of a Mexican national, Luis Mendoza Gonzalez, who is 52 years old.

According to reports, Boss had been visiting Mendoza, who claimed to have been under the influence of drugs at the time. He stated he found her unresponsive and believed she had died from an overdose.

DHS indicated that Mendoza kept the body in his basement for several days before discarding it in his yard, later applying bleach and leaving it there for nearly two months.

Mendoza faced multiple felony charges, including concealment of a corpse and obstruction of justice. However, these are not custodial offenses according to Illinois’ sanctuary laws. After a court appearance, a Lake County judge, Randy Bruno, released Mendoza. He was subsequently apprehended by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Chicago on July 19, 2025.

“It’s heartbreaking for Megan Voss’s family, who has suffered due to illegal alien crime and feels abandoned by Illinois and its sanctuary policies,” stated DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Under President Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership, we are dedicated to protecting innocent Americans affected by such crimes.”

McLaughlin noted that around 70% of people detained by ICE are illegal immigrants who have been charged or convicted of crimes in the United States.

In a video tribute, Boss’s mother, Jennifer Vos, spoke out against the treatment of ICE agents as they continue their work against criminal illegal immigrants. She expressed frustration over clashes that have occurred during enforcement operations, noting that two people were killed in incidents in Minneapolis.

“I can’t stand how ICE is treated. Please stay strong and continue your work. Many are thankful for your efforts,” Jennifer Vos said. “Each crime committed by someone unauthorized here is a crime that could’ve been avoided.”

She added her belief that tragedies like her daughter’s could have been preventable and criticized Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker for policies that she feels protect offenders. “We simply want criminals who harm our families to be removed.”

The Trump administration has previously filed lawsuits against various states regarding sanctuary laws that, while aimed at protecting undocumented immigrants, are viewed by critics as a risk to public safety. In July 2025, a federal judge dismissed such a lawsuit against Illinois, citing concerns of federal overreach.
