Investigators Look Into Video of Preti Incident
Investigators from Homeland Security and Investigations (HSI) are currently examining a video that allegedly shows Alex Preti assaulting a federal officer shortly before he was shot by Border Patrol agents.
The video, shared by a source, appears to show a man spitting at a police officer and breaking the taillight of a car in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), confirmed that the HSI is reviewing the footage.
Mr. Min, who posted the video, claimed that the BBC verified Preti’s identity with 97% accuracy. However, the BBC has yet to respond to inquiries about their analysis of the video.
In the video, individuals can be seen physically restraining the man, and a firearm is reportedly visible above his waistband, with clothing matching what Preti wore the day he died.
On Saturday, a Border Patrol agent fatally shot Preti amid an anti-ICE protest. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem faced backlash after labeling Preti a domestic terrorist for allegedly approaching agents with a weapon.
It was reported that Noem’s claims derived from Stephen Miller, the acting White House Chief of Staff. Miller described Preti as an “assassin” in a statement. President Donald Trump has asked for an extensive investigation into the shooting, and two individuals involved have been placed on administrative leave.
Following the deaths of Preti and another individual named Renee Good, who was killed after being struck by a car driven by an ICE agent, significant protests erupted in Minnesota. Local leaders, including Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, are calling for ICE and federal immigration officials to withdraw from the state entirely.
Democratic representatives, nearly 150 in total, are pushing for Noem’s impeachment. The articles of impeachment were first introduced by Illinois Rep. Robin Kelly on January 14th.
