Melania Trump Opens Trading at NYSE, Promotes Upcoming Documentary
On January 28, 2026, Melania Trump rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange, kicking off the trading day and drawing attention to her upcoming documentary, melania, set to debut on January 30.
During the event—described by her office as a way to mark a “significant year of leadership” in President Donald Trump’s second term—she emphasized the power of human stories and inspiration.
President Trump remarked, “Good storytelling drives culture, which in turn drives markets.” She added, “Cultural influence will soon be as vital as economic strength. The capacity to narrate a story and connect with people emotionally will be essential. People want to feel something.”
She expanded on this, saying, “We need stories that offer dreams and hope, stories of redemption and love. Ultimately, we need narratives that resonate with our humanity.”
Lynn Martin, President of the New York Stock Exchange, honored the First Lady with the NYSE Memorial Medallion, a traditional accolade for those who ring the bell.
Martin shared, “The medallion features our six pillars, which signify various concepts, notably the idea of global free market access and freedom, which I know you support wholeheartedly.”
In addition to the medallion, Martin presented Trump with a commemorative plaque celebrating the documentary’s release.
Trump described her film as the “first ever” to offer a first lady’s perspective on the lead-up to inauguration day and referred to her husband’s return to office as “pivotal.”
She remarked, “Visual storytelling, paired with beautiful music, creates memories that last. What do you think of when you hear the Rolling Stones or Michael Jackson? Movies bring families together to share those moments. In doing so, they not only watch a film but also become part of our nation’s history. Thank you for being here today and enjoy the movie.”
Amazon MGM Studios acquired the documentary for $40 million, and it was directed by Brett Ratner, with Melania serving as the executive producer, indicating her significant involvement in its making.
Roger Beckman, her senior advisor, provided insights into her role, saying she was intricately involved in all aspects of production, from the trailers to the ad campaigns, saying, “When I say involved, I mean she didn’t just approve. She created the trailer, selected the music—everything has her touch, which can be seen across nearly 30 countries.”
The documentary is set to premiere at the Trump Kennedy Center on January 29.
