Lamar Odom has entered rehab following an arrest for drunk driving this month.
The former NBA player, according to his manager Gina Rodriguez, made a “personal decision” to commit to a 30-day treatment program at iRely Recovery. This choice was made as part of his aim to “reset and focus on his health.”
Rodriguez mentioned that after his recent arrest, Odom took time to reflect and confront the issues he has been facing. “He’s really committed to taking responsibility for his actions and being proactive about his well-being,” she added.
She also expressed that Odom appreciates the support he’s receiving and is determined to move forward positively.
The program he’s enrolled in is geared toward helping individuals struggling with substance use and mental health issues, aiming to help them achieve balance and rebuild their lives.
At 46, Odom is addressing his marijuana use, fearing it might lead him back to harder substances, as his manager indicated. He was arrested for DUI on January 17th in Las Vegas.
In addition to the DUI, Odom is facing two traffic violations connected to this incident, including driving significantly over the speed limit and improper lane changes, as reported by TMZ.
His past struggles with substance abuse are well-known. In 2015, he survived a serious overdose that left him in a coma, a situation that garnered significant media attention and left his then-wife, Khloé Kardashian, to care for him.
Initially, Kardashian had filed for divorce in December 2013, but the process was paused during his health crisis. In a candid moment on a reality show, she recounted a time when she confronted Odom after discovering he had relapsed post-overdose, having lost control during an emotional moment. “I punched you in the face and shattered everything in that house,” she recalled.
During previous statements, Odom had claimed that he was “not thinking” when he reverted to drug use; Kardashian, however, pointed out that he was apparently conscious enough to contact a dealer.
In 2021, Odom mentioned using ketamine under medical supervision to aid in his sobriety, expressing how it positively impacted his life. He described feeling “alive, calm, and happy” during that period.
