What is Accountability?

Megan Rapinoe has revisited the topic of accountability, showing support for Angel Reese’s choice to avoid the media. Dan Dakich, however, is skeptical about that stance. He questions how skipping media events is equated with “taking back power,” arguing that the current sports culture emphasizes empowerment while shirking responsibility, which, he believes, hampers the progress of women’s sports.

In other news, Draymond Green has had a whirlwind 24 hours. Rather than lounging on his couch during the NBA playoffs, he made an appearance at a Kevin Hart roast, took jabs at Chelsea Handler, and shared his thoughts on a podcast.

Following a tense Game 4 between the Spurs and the Timberwolves, where Spurs star Victor Wembanyama was thrown out of the game, Green had plenty to discuss.

Wembanyama’s ejection came after he struck Naz Reid with an elbow, resulting in the first ejection of his career. The foul was deemed “flagrant 2,” and without their star player, San Antonio suffered a setback, ending the series with a 2-2 split.

Green expressed discontent on his podcast after the league chose not to issue any fines or suspensions. He criticized both the NBA and Wembanyama’s actions, suggesting that the league underestimated the implications of losing one of its main athletes during a critical playoff match.

While initially, there were whispers that Wembanyama might face a suspension, he ended up playing in Game 5. Green, notorious for his own physical style of play, argued that the consequences for Wembanyama’s actions were too lenient, putting Minnesota at a disadvantage.

He posed a question: “What if the roles were reversed and Naz had been the one taking the hit?” He emphasized that other players have faced fines and suspensions in the past, and it seemed unfair that this instance was handled differently.

In replays of the game, Wembanyama’s swing might have appeared intentional, sparking controversy, although it wasn’t aimed directly at Reid.

Teammate Dylan Harper seemed shocked by the incident, but after reviewing the footage, the NBA concluded there wasn’t enough evidence for further action.

Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson stood by Wembanyama following the match, indicating the level of physicality directed at him necessitates self-protection. Johnson expressed frustration over the treatment of his player, acknowledging the necessity of a balance between playing hard and staying safe.

As the series heads into a critical Game 5, tensions are escalating, and it’s unclear how the Timberwolves will respond to perceived injustices on the court. Green’s remarks linger, leaving many eager to see how Minnesota reacts under pressure.
