LeBron and Bronny James share special moments in Cleveland

CLEVELAND — LeBron James Reflects on Future Amidst Lakers’ Loss

LeBron James was in a contemplative mood during his visit to Rocket Arena on Wednesday night. Just before the Lakers faced a tough defeat against the Cavaliers, he pondered about his last game in Cleveland. Should he savor it more than usual?

“I’ve felt that way in every arena I’ve visited,” he remarked. “We’re always trying to embrace the moment, not take anything for granted. This might be my last season, you know?”

The 41-year-old, who is in his record-breaking 23rd NBA season, admitted he’s unsure about what lies ahead post-season. This summer, he will become an unrestricted free agent.

“I haven’t decided on my future, but it’s quite possible this could be it,” he shared. Whether he’s playing in Washington or Madison Square Garden, the significance of Cleveland hits harder for him, given his roots just 35 minutes away.

However, the game didn’t go well for James and his team. He scored only 11 points on 3-of-10 shooting, alongside six turnovers, five assists, and three rebounds.

The final score of 129-99 marked the Lakers’ largest loss of the season. After an early lead of 40-30 in the third quarter, they crumbled, finishing the game with a grim 99-59 run. Coach JJ Reddick voiced his frustrations, saying, “We lost, but I felt like I lost. It didn’t seem like we had the energy we needed.”

Despite the defeat, there were some bright spots. The Cavaliers’ fans commemorated James with a video tribute early on, and in the fourth quarter, they chanted for “We want Bronny.” Second-year guard Bronny James lit up the court with eight points, including a fast-break dunk and two late 3-pointers.

Bronny, aged 21, shares that same Akron background as his father. LeBron reflected on the experience, saying, “It was incredible to witness him living out his dreams. To see him dunk, hit shots, and receive that fan welcome? It was a great moment for our family.” He added, “It’s surreal to me that my mom is here watching both her son and grandson play in the NBA. It’s hard to wrap my head around that.”

As the game wrapped, attention shifted back to LeBron’s future. He had previously mentioned feeling he had nothing left to prove, but nearly a decade later, he continues to play.

“After reaching the Finals eight times in a row, if someone had asked me if I’d still be in the game eight years later, I would’ve said no. Sure, I could see myself playing at a high level for a couple more years, but eight? That was unexpected,” James reflected.

While many expect him to keep playing beyond this season, there’s still uncertainty about whether he’ll continue with the Lakers. If he were to retire, it seems he wouldn’t want a farewell tour.

“I haven’t really thought about a farewell tour or when my career will end,” he explained. “It hasn’t come up in any serious way with my family or myself. It’ll be a later discussion.” In his internal musings, he frequently circles back to why he’s still out there playing.

“The reason I continue is that I still excel at this game and love the process,” he stated. “Putting in the work and feeling inspired—it all matters more than just playing. I’m not just talking about myself either. I’ve done okay personally.” He acknowledged that with increasing chatter about retirement, thoughts of when it might end have entered his mind more frequently. “But how much longer can I compete against Father Time? I won’t be one of those players who can’t walk away from the game.”
