Sen. Dick Durbin Presents AI-Generated Image of Alex Pretti Shooting in Senate Session

Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) recently showed a poster during a Senate speech featuring an AI-generated image that inaccurately portrayed the shooting of Alex Preti. Notably, the image had a missing head of one AI-generated federal agent.

“I stand on the Senate floor to condemn the deaths of American citizens caused by federal immigration agents and urge the Trump administration to take accountability for its actions,” Durbin asserted in a post on X, along with a video of his comments at the Capitol.

“This past weekend, federal agents shot another American in Minneapolis,” the senator stated. “Alex Preti was a 37-year-old ICU nurse.”

“I will show you some graphic photos of the incident, but I think it’s vital for people to grasp the magnitude of that moment,” Durbin stated, as he revealed an AI-generated image that misleadingly represented the recent shooting.

“This photo illustrates the moments before an ICE agent shot Alex Preti on the streets of Minneapolis,” added the senator, mistakenly stating that it was a Border Patrol agent responsible for the shooting, not ICE.

The senator’s post on X, which included a video of his speech, received significant attention. On social media, “rating” reflects a situation where a post garners more comments than likes or shares, indicating it may not be well-received or is viewed as incorrect.

“Dick, you just presented AI imagery as evidence on the Senate floor,” remarked Town Hall columnist Dustin Grage.

“It’s hard to believe, but it’s actually happening,” commented Eric Teetzel, CEO of the Center for Renewing America. “@SenatorDurbin really used a fabricated AI image from Minnesota in his Senate address.”

“Did no one notice that the supposed ICE agent’s head was missing?!” Thiesel questioned while posting a still from Durbin’s video, clearly showing a headless AI-generated agent.

“That’s certainly a graphic image… especially since ICE agents don’t actually have heads,” another user on X chimed in.

“Is the Headless Horseman becoming an ICE agent?” another user wondered.

“‘Photographs tell a story.’ Indeed. But what story does a headless ICE officer in AI-created imagery tell?” another article asserted.

“Do you have an assistant?” Political Strategist Matt Whitlock questioned. “Being tricked by an AI image and using it in a Senate address is quite embarrassing and counterproductive.”

“Whether knowingly or not, you presented a misleading AI-generated image as truth in the Senate. You should face censure, if not expulsion from office,” another commenter remarked.

“It’s downright outrageous. They utilized an AI-generated image to depict what appeared to be an execution. Disgraceful,” declared another user.

Another user urged Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) to “please denounce Mr. Durbin for showcasing the AI photo.”

“One of the agents doesn’t even have a head!” an X user pointed out. “This needs to be cleared from the record.”
