Tommy Edman from the Dodgers celebrates the arrival of his daughter Ava with his wife Kristen in Los Angeles.

Tommy Edman recently wrote a new name on his lineup card.

The second baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers and his wife, Kristen, welcomed their second child, a daughter named Ava, on Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Edman and Kristen shared their joy on Instagram, describing the serene moments in the hospital room, the snug little baby, and big brother Eli experiencing the introduction to his sister for the first time.

“It’s worth the wait. Welcome to the world, Ava Edman,” Kristen expressed simply, capturing the moment perfectly.

Throughout the past year, Edman dealt with a persistent right ankle injury as the Dodgers celebrated their second World Series title, their first since the New York Yankees pulled off a three-peat from 1998 to 2000.

This injury landed Edman on the injured list twice, preventing him from participating in the team’s championship game in October. Nevertheless, he pushed through, playing wherever the team needed him and ultimately underwent surgery in mid-November.

Edman, who played despite his ankle troubles during the playoffs, expects to be fit in time for spring training.

At the winter meetings in early November, general manager Brandon Gomez acknowledged the situation, stating, “Obviously this has been bothering him for a while. He’s been very tough and kept going out there for us, making some great plays. Addressing this issue is good for him.”

While Edman’s recovery timeline isn’t clear, he hopes to be ready for spring training. On the other hand, the Dodgers have a reputation for being cautious with players returning from injury, which may influence his preparation for Opening Day. With their strong depth, they can afford to take their time. To that end, the team has brought in Andy Ibáñez and reinforced their roster with players like Miguel Rojas and Alex Freeland. As always, Andrew Friedman has backup plans ready to go.
