Democratic Endorsements for Klobuchar’s Gubernatorial Campaign
Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, along with several other Democrats, is backing Sen. Amy Klobuchar in her bid for governor of Minnesota. Klobuchar, who has served in the U.S. Senate since 2007, officially launched her campaign on Thursday.
“I’m excited to support my friend Amy Klobuchar in her candidacy for Minnesota governor,” Buttigieg shared, reflecting on their past collaborations. He highlighted how Klobuchar actively engages with the community to achieve results for her constituents. Buttigieg’s statement emphasized the need for stable and compassionate leadership in Minnesota, and he believes Klobuchar fits that role perfectly.
It’s interesting to note that a few years back, both Klobuchar and Buttigieg were contenders for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. During one debate, a moderator pointed out Klobuchar’s struggle to name the Mexican president, leading to some tension between the two. Buttigieg challenged her on it, questioning her qualifications based on her experience in Washington, which made for a rather memorable moment.
Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, who was once Hillary Clinton’s running mate in 2016, also lent his support to Klobuchar, saying, “She has proven time and again, both as a senator and now as a candidate for governor, that her commitment to inclusive progress is what Minnesota needs.” His endorsement underscores a shared belief in Klobuchar’s leadership potential.
Additionally, Minnesota Representative Angie Craig endorsed Klobuchar, highlighting her dedication to public service. “I’m proud to support my friend Amy Klobuchar as our next governor,” she said, reinforcing her commitment to the state.
