Arrest Made in Florida Murder Case After Extradition
A man wanted for the murder of a Florida resident has been apprehended in Mexico following a lengthy international search. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest and extradition of 32-year-old Alfredo Carballo Gonzalez.
Carballo Gonzalez was detained by Mexican authorities on January 27 and flown to Miami, where he was arrested the next day by homicide detectives. The details about his immigration status have not been disclosed, and inquiries to ICE are ongoing for clarification.
This arrest marks a significant step in the investigation surrounding the death of Daylon Freitas Gonzalez, who vanished in early August 2025 after meeting with Carballo Gonzalez in Medley, Florida.
Detectives revealed that the two met on August 3, bringing up a financial agreement regarding $10,000 that Carballo Gonzalez owed Freitas. A confrontation purportedly ensued when Carballo Gonzalez entered Freitas’s truck.
Court documents indicate that investigators witnessed Carballo Gonzalez loading a recycling bin into his truck, which raised suspicions. Another vehicle followed him, identified as being driven by his girlfriend, Ariely Alvarez Cabrera.
On August 8, the police found Freitas’s truck, which contained several items of evidential significance. Tragically, they later discovered Freitas dead inside a recycling bin. Reports assert that Carballo Gonzalez and Alvarez Cabrera fled to Mexico with their five-month-old child.
Details surrounding their departure to Mexico remain unclear. Carballo Gonzalez faces charges of second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence, while Alvarez Cabrera is accused of similar offenses.
Fortunately, authorities have confirmed that the couple’s child has been safely returned to Florida. Efforts are underway to reach Alvarez Cabrera’s attorney for further comment.
