Catherine O’Hara’s Family Plans Private Celebration After Her Passing
Catherine O’Hara’s family will organize a “private celebration of her life” following her death at 71 on Friday.
The beloved actress, notable for her roles in the early “Home Alone” films and the acclaimed series “Schitt’s Creek,” passed away in Los Angeles after a brief illness.
Her team confirmed the news to Page Six, indicating that her husband, Beau Welch, along with their sons Matthew and Luke, will be involved in the upcoming celebration.
The actress was reportedly taken to a Los Angeles hospital in “serious” condition early Friday morning and, unfortunately, later succumbed to her illness, as stated by a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Details regarding the cause of her death remain undisclosed; however, there have been mentions of a rare condition known as right-sided heart disease.
O’Hara was last seen publicly in September 2025 at an Apple TV+ Primetime Emmy Party, where she celebrated her show “The Studio” alongside Seth Rogen.
Seth Rogen expressed his grief on Instagram, saying he felt at a loss for words. He recalled meeting her for the first time and telling her she was the funniest person he had ever seen. Rogen reflected on how “Home Alone” inspired him to pursue a career in film, describing O’Hara as hysterical, kind, and generous. He noted how lucky everyone was to have her in their lives.
In the wake of her passing, fellow “Home Alone” star Macaulay Culkin shared a heartfelt tribute, expressing his wish for more time with her. He mentioned wanting to sit next to her, to hear her voice again, and conveyed his love with the hope of seeing her once more. Other co-stars from “Beetlejuice” and “Schitt’s Creek” have also shared their condolences and memories of O’Hara.
