Tom Homan refutes claims that the Trump administration is backing down on deportations: 'Not true'

Border Czar Tom Homan Addresses Deportation Myths

Tom Homan, the border czar, has dismissed claims that the Trump administration is easing up on deporting undocumented immigrants, calling these rumors “false.”

In a recent interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Homan emphasized that since President Trump assumed office, there have been “more than 700,000 deportations between Border Patrol and ICE.” He clarified that the administration is focusing on “the apprehension of criminals and threats to public safety.”

“The president is looking to clarify the situation because there’s been a lot of talk about him retreating from his promise of mass deportations,” Homan explained. “That’s simply not true. My message has remained consistent since January 20th, when President Trump took office.”

He continued, “While mass deportations are in the works, our priority is to arrest criminals and anyone posing a public safety threat. I just checked the numbers, and in just over a year, there have been over 700,000 deportations through Border Patrol and ICE.”

Following the recent shooting in Minneapolis that resulted in the death of 37-year-old Alex Preti during an encounter with Border Patrol agents, President Trump announced Homan’s assignment to Minnesota.

Preti’s death occurred shortly after Renee Good was shot and killed by ICE agents, who said she used her car to threaten them while they attempted to assist her.

Trump noted that, while Homan wasn’t directly involved in the local fieldwork, he had good relationships with many people in Minnesota.

“Tom will be tough but fair and will report directly to me,” Trump shared on Truth Social.

On Tuesday, Homan reported that he had met with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D), Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and key law enforcement personnel to address the situation in Minnesota.

“We all agree on the necessity of supporting law enforcement and removing criminals from the streets,” Homan stated.

This statement followed President Trump’s indication in a Fox News interview that he would be moderating his administration’s approach in Minnesota. According to BBC News.
