Seahawks’ Tarik Uhlen Fined for Penalty During Championship Game
Seattle Seahawks defensive back Tarik Uhlen has been fined $17,398 for incurring a provocation penalty during the NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams.
This penalty occurred at a pivotal moment, just under three minutes into the third quarter. The Seahawks were holding an 11-point lead and had just stopped the Rams on third down, seemingly on the verge of extending their advantage.
However, Uhlen faced the Rams’ bench after the play, retreating with his hands behind his back.
As a result of the penalty, instead of forcing a Seattle punt, the Rams received a first down. They took immediate advantage, scoring on the next play to pull within one possession.
Post-touchdown, Uhlen was seen shouting at his teammates on the sideline and faced significant criticism online.
After the game, Uhlen responded to the backlash, seemingly in apology and expressing his bond with his teammates during the sideline incident.
He indicated in one post, “There are no more mocking penalties.” In another, he addressed a critic suggesting he felt pressured. He stated, “I wasn’t feeling pressured. We are brothers and we have the same mission, pursuing greatness.”
While Uhlen’s penalty made the game much closer, the Seahawks ultimately secured a 31-27 victory, sealing their spot in the Super Bowl.
Seattle’s defense managed to hold strong, making a crucial fourth-down stop with just under five minutes left, allowing time to run out against Los Angeles.
This year’s Super Bowl marks a rematch from the Seahawks’ last Super Bowl appearance in 2015, which is remembered as one of the greatest Super Bowls, ending with New England’s Malcolm Butler interception in the final seconds for the win.
