Bitcoin Price Drops Below $80,000

Bitcoin has recently fallen below the $80,000 mark for the first time since April, signaling a sharp decline in its value.

As of Saturday, the price of Bitcoin was around $79,113, reflecting a 4% drop within just 24 hours, as reported by CoinGecko. Over the past week, it has lost more than 11% of its value, and major cryptocurrencies have also seen an 11% decrease year-to-date.

This downward trend has been partly attributed to investors pulling out nearly $1.5 billion from U.S. Bitcoin exchange-traded funds this week, according to data from Pharcyde Investors. These funds, managed by firms like BlackRock and Fidelity, allow for easier access to cryptocurrencies.

The ongoing price decline is worsening as futures traders are being liquidated. Coinglass reported that $1.6 billion in positions were closed within the last 24 hours, mostly involving long positions—where traders anticipated price increases.

Concerns Over Government Shutdown

Withdrawal rates from these funds have escalated in recent weeks amid worries about geopolitical issues and the U.S. government shutdown. The government partially went into shutdown on Saturday, although it’s predicted to be brief. President Trump mentioned efforts to collaborate with Democrats to avoid a prolonged shutdown.

However, past government shutdowns have negatively impacted crypto prices, which have generally battled to recover since then.

This week, Bitcoin also faced declines when tech stocks fell. The connection between the cryptocurrency market and stock market has been evident since last year.

Ethereum has also seen a significant decrease, trading around $2,401, which is over 12% lower within 24 hours. Other leading coins like XRP and Solana experienced substantial drops, falling by 10% and 11%, respectively.

Recent Market Movements

  • Bitcoin is trading at $78,904, down 4% in the last 24 hours.
  • Ethereum has dropped nearly 12%, settling at approximately $2,396.
