Kremlin Official Praises Trump as Peace Advocate
A high-ranking Kremlin official has expressed admiration for former President Donald Trump, regarding him as a leader committed to peace in Ukraine. Dmitry Medvedev, who serves as the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council and is a former president, suggested that Trump genuinely aims to end the ongoing conflict and hopes to be remembered for his role as a peace negotiator.
“Trump wants to leave a legacy as a peacemaker, and he is making significant efforts,” Medvedev noted. He added that interactions with Americans have become more fruitful recently.
Trump has often claimed that a peace agreement to conclude the war is imminent. U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff shared during a Cabinet meeting that he had engaged in “productive and constructive talks” with his Russian counterpart, Kirill Dmitriev, as part of the administration’s focus on ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that new discussions involving Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia are scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi this week. His announcement comes at a critical time as Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy and logistics infrastructure have intensified, worsening the situation for civilians as winter sets in.
In his comments, Medvedev dismissed rumors that Trump was secretly collaborating with Moscow, emphasizing that Trump was elected by the American people, which Russia respects. He commended Trump for challenging the American political status quo, suggesting that Trump’s candid and sometimes abrasive demeanor is often misunderstood.
“He is indeed an emotional individual, but the chaos often attributed to him is simply not accurate,” Medvedev stated. “It’s clear there is a well-thought-out approach behind his actions.”
Medvedev, a more hardline member of the Russian government, has frequently warned about the possibility of nuclear escalation since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He maintains that while avoiding further conflict is crucial, he still anticipates that Russia will achieve military success in Ukraine.
As for the resolution of the conflict, Medvedev expressed a strong desire for an end as soon as possible, but he stressed the importance of considering what comes after, asserting, “The ultimate goal of victory is to prevent new conflicts.”
