Terrell Williams of the Patriots announced he is cancer-free before Super Bowl 2026

Patriots’ Terrell Williams Set to Join Team After Battling Cancer

The New England Patriots are preparing for a special moment during Super Bowl week. Their defensive coordinator, Terrell Williams, will be on the flight next Sunday as the team gears up for the big game against the Seahawks in Santa Clara, California. This is significant since Williams has been absent all season due to his health struggles.

Diagnosed with prostate cancer on September 11, Williams has since been declared cancer-free. He expressed immense gratitude to the medical staff at Massachusetts General Hospital. “I’m thankful to all the doctors, nurses, and everyone involved in my care,” Williams, 51, shared. “The kindness I’ve encountered here has truly amazed me.” Perhaps, he hopes this trip will bring joy to those who supported him along the way.

Williams learned about his recovery in mid-January, shortly before the Patriots’ victory over the Texans in the divisional round. Head coach Mike Vrabel shared the encouraging news with the players just before the game.

Defensive tackle Milton Williams reflected on the challenges faced during the ordeal, stating, “It was hard to witness what he went through, but ultimately things turned out well. It’s a blessing for him to come through this.” He emphasized how important it is for the team to rally together and support one another.

Williams experienced initial symptoms resembling gastroenteritis following the Patriots’ loss to the Raiders in Week 1, leading to the cancer diagnosis. Initially, doctors suspected lymphoma, as reported.

“It was aggressive and had spread throughout my body,” he disclosed. “When you hear cancer, a lot of thoughts rush in—especially fears of the worst.” Williams admitted worrying about what this meant for him and how it would affect his work with the team.

Throughout his career, Williams has worked alongside Vrabel, serving as the defensive line coach during Vrabel’s tenure with the Titans. After Vrabel took a break in 2024, Williams continued his career as the Lions’ defensive line coach. Now, after months of uncertainty, he’s ready to take the field in his first Super Bowl.
