Debra Messing Criticizes NYC Mayor Over Traffic Chaos

Debra Messing, the actress known for her role in “Will & Grace,” recently voiced her frustration after experiencing severe traffic congestion outside New York City hospitals. This followed a week after winter storm Fern hit, leaving snow piled high on roads. She pointed fingers at Mayor Zoran Mamdani, suggesting he’s responsible for the messy situation.

During a taxi ride, Messing found herself stuck in traffic for over an hour. This delay was particularly concerning as an ambulance struggled to make its way through the gridlock early Saturday morning.

Expressing her dismay, she remarked, “The roads are a disaster. It hasn’t snowed for five days, and yet they’re still not plowed. The poor ambulance is stuck out there,” emphasizing that it felt more like a parking lot with sirens blaring. She prayed for anyone in need of urgent care.

Having lived in the city for 15 years, Messing noted, “We’ve always had snowplows working around the clock to clear things up. What’s going on? Come on, New Yorkers,” she quipped, drawing laughter from her followers.

While she didn’t directly name Mamdani, many inferred her sarcasm was aimed at him due to her prior critiques of the self-proclaimed socialist. Messing had previously supported Andrew Cuomo in the mayoral race and created a stir on social media in November when she shared memes labeling Mamdani as an “America-hating jihadist.”

Since those posts, she’s mostly refrained from commenting about him online. But with the blizzard’s aftermath weighing heavy on the city, her critical voice has gained traction among those who share her views on the city’s condition.

One user humorously suggested, “Maybe the warmth of collectivism isn’t enough to melt the snow.” Another echoed, “The collective is waking up.” It seemed that her comments resonated with those who were also poking fun at Mamdani’s promise to supplant ‘rugged individualism’ with ‘the warmth of collectivism.’

Winter storm Fern, which covered New York City in snow on January 25, led Mamdani to reassure residents that city workers would be on the clock to keep things moving. However, many have noticed trash accumulating on Upper East Side sidewalks and snow lingering at crosswalks, except notably around Gracie Mansion.

In a bid to tackle the challenges posed by the snowfall, Mamdani shifted New York City schools to virtual learning on January 26. However, this decision proved problematic, as both students and parents faced difficulties just trying to log on.

Sadly, the extreme cold has been deadly, with at least 14 New Yorkers reportedly losing their lives. Despite this, Mamdani expressed he’s still grappling with how to improve his response to such crises in his new role.
