Ex-UK Ambassador Leaves Labour Party Due to Epstein Connections

Former British Ambassador Resigns from Labor Party

Sir Peter Mandelson, who once served as the British ambassador to the US, has stepped down from the ruling Labor Party. This decision follows recent disclosures linking him to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, known for his criminal activities.

Mandelson, a key figure in the Labor Party and previously a prominent advisor to former Prime Minister Tony Blair, announced his departure from the party on Sunday evening. His resignation comes after he was dismissed in September due to his connections with Epstein.

In a statement, Mandelson expressed that he resigned to avoid further embarrassment for the party. This announcement occurred just after a significant release of documents by the US Department of Justice, which revealed details about Mandelson’s association with Epstein.

Among the released materials was an image showing Mandelson in casual attire conversing with a woman in a bathrobe. Previously, he claimed that a lot of Epstein’s sexual misconduct remained hidden due to his own sexual orientation, stating, “I think the problem was that because I was gay in his circle, I was cut off from what he was doing on the sexual side of his life.”

Despite this, he apologized to Epstein’s victims, remarking, “I want to apologize for a system that refused to listen to women’s voices and gave them the protection they deserved.” He emphasized his regret for those impacted and stressed that he never condoned Epstein’s actions.

The documents also included alleged communications between Mandelson and Epstein, where Epstein seemed to discuss influencing government policy on banking bonuses. Mandelson, who held a cabinet position under Gordon Brown, insisted that his motivations extended beyond his dealings with Epstein.

Additionally, there appeared to be a record of a $75,000 transfer connected to Mandelson, a claim he stated he couldn’t confirm due to a lack of supporting evidence or memory regarding the transaction. This situation remains complicated, leaving many questions about the nature of his connections with Epstein.
