Poll Reveals Mixed Feelings About Bad Bunny as Super Bowl Halftime Performer
A recent survey of NFL players shows that only a slight majority support the league’s decision to feature rapper Bad Bunny in the Super Bowl halftime show.
According to the anonymous poll detailed by The Athletic, just over half, 58.6%, of the 58 players surveyed are in favor of the Puerto Rican artist’s selection, while 41.4% expressed disapproval.
Many players cited two main reasons for their opposition: either they are not familiar with Bad Bunny’s music or they prefer another artist for the halftime performance.
Some responses were quite critical. One NFC player remarked, “I don’t like that. I prefer someone who’s part of football culture. There are plenty of artists who love the game.” Another AFC player noted, “I think there are better examples of character and morals than Bad Bunny.” Additionally, one NFC player mentioned, “I don’t even know who Bad Bunny is. It should really be American. It feels like they’re pushing the international thing too much.” (It should be noted that despite being Puerto Rican, Puerto Rico has been an American territory since 1917.)
When asked who they would prefer for the halftime show, players suggested a range of names, including Drake, Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Travis Scott, Creed, Justin Bieber, Chris Stapleton, and Morgan Wallen, among others.
Bad Bunny’s selection has sparked significant controversy. His announcement led to a wave of social media backlash against the NFL’s choice.
In response to the criticism, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defended the decision, claiming the choice was made with care. He stated that the artist’s performance would “unite” America, adding, “I don’t think I’ve ever picked an artist that hasn’t had some sort of backlash or criticism. It’s tough to find someone who pleases everyone when millions are watching. I’m confident it will be an exciting and unifying moment.”
The Super Bowl is scheduled for February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
