Byron Donalds Explains Why He Won't Discuss ICE with Democrats

Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donald Rejects Democratic Calls on Immigration Debate

On Monday, Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donald dismissed suggestions for Democrats to engage in discussions about immigration enforcement and the tactics used in protests, particularly criticizing instances where left-wing demonstrators have utilized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents’ information as identification.

During an appearance on “Evening Edit,” host Elizabeth MacDonald inquired if Democrats would enforce a state law that forbids demonstrators from wearing masks at riots and protests. Donald promptly rejected the idea, expressing a lack of interest in collaborating with Democrats on the matter.

“They’re reckless,” Donald stated. “They jeopardized the safety of Americans and, frankly, the safety of police officers and their families.” He also highlighted concerns about organized protests from some Democratic factions potentially compromising the personal information of police officers.

He further claimed that Democrats have neglected border security, which he argued endangers public safety.

“I’m not negotiating with them. I have no interest. They aren’t serving the country well. They recently made an agreement and need to stick to it for progress to happen,” Donald said.

Meanwhile, Senate Democrats are linking negotiations for Homeland Security funding with a range of immigration enforcement reforms. Proposals include preventing ICE officers from hiding their identities with face coverings, requiring visible identification, and mandating the use of body cameras for greater transparency.

In a similar vein, California lawmakers and members of Congress are advocating for legislation to prohibit federal officers from disguising their faces during enforcement actions. Republicans argue this practice is a precaution to shield agents and their families from potential threats due to revealing personal information.

Incidents in left-leaning media have previously highlighted ICE agents. For example, a recent incident involved the progressive outlet Status Coup News streaming what was purported to be documents containing personal information of ICE and FBI agents after a federal operation in Minneapolis.

The livestream allegedly revealed names, phone numbers, and details about government agencies, raising significant concerns over the safety and privacy of law enforcement personnel. Federal officials have cautioned that making ICE personnel information public could endanger these employees and their families and might involve legal repercussions.
