Arizona sheriff gets emotional on air while discussing urgent search for Nancy Guthrie

The sheriff in charge of the search for Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, who has been missing for four days, expressed deep emotion during a recent interview. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos spoke with CBS 5 host Brianna Whitney about the troubling situation.

Whitney opened the segment by mentioning the involvement of homicide detectives in the ongoing investigation and asked about the nature of the search.

“Do you think they are looking for Nancy Guthrie who is still alive at this time? Is there a chance she might be held somewhere nearby or taken to a different location?” she inquired. Nanos, visibly shaken, replied, “Not really…you know, we’re not giving up hope. I hope she’s out there somewhere.”

When pressed about whether he believes this remains an active rescue mission, he said, “I hope so.” Whitney then asked about the DNA testing being carried out at Nancy’s home and how quickly results might come in.

The sheriff explained, “We have our own rapid DNA testing here, and of course we use the lab. But we heard that the system here in Tucson was down, so we ran it all the way to Phoenix.” He mentioned hoping for quicker feedback by requesting expedited processing from the lab, although he recognized that time is of the essence and things are moving slowly.
