'Morning Joe' co-host struggles to hold back tears while talking about Nancy Guthrie

Emotional Appeal for Missing Mother

During Tuesday’s broadcast of “Morning Joe,” co-host Mika Brzezinski struggled to hold back tears as she addressed the alarming news surrounding Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, who has gone missing. Fellow hosts expressed their deep concern for the NBC “Today” show anchor.

Brzezinski took note of several headlines throughout the morning, including the distressing reports about Nancy’s disappearance. As her husband and co-host, Joe Scarborough, spoke about the situation, Brzezinski grabbed a tissue. “She’s a dear friend to all of us. And I know Willie has worked with her even more,” Scarborough said, visibly shaken. “It’s just shocking news. We pray for her safe return.”

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reportedly last seen at her home in Tucson on Saturday evening around 9:30 p.m. While details remained scarce initially, Sheriff Chris Nanos indicated the possibility of foul play, stating, “the fact is, we are committing a crime.”

Concerns Over Possible Abduction

Co-host Willie Geist, who also appears on “Today,” emphasized that Savannah is currently seeking prayers. “All Savannah needs right now is prayer. She’s very proud of her faith, and so was her mother,” Geist noted.

He shared that when Nancy missed church on Sunday, worried congregants reached out to Savannah’s brothers. “This is unthinkable. Shock alone doesn’t convey the level of distress we’re all feeling,” he continued. “I’ve known Nancy for the past 15 years—she’s a kind, gentle, intelligent woman. We’re just trying to support Savannah, her husband, and the kids. Nancy is a wonderful mother and grandmother, and we pray. If you believe in prayer, I think whatever positive energy you can send, Savannah would truly appreciate it.”

Savannah Guthrie’s Reaction

As the situation unfolded, Brzezinski admitted to being “speechless.” Savannah took to Instagram on Monday, asking for support through prayer. “We believe in prayer… and above all, we believe in the Lord,” she wrote, sharing her thoughts alongside a photo.

In her heartfelt message, she expressed gratitude for the prayers being raised, describing her mother as a “woman of deep faith, a good and faithful servant.” She urged others to join in prayer, declaring, “We need you.”
