Debra Messing Critiques NYC Mayor’s Handling of Arctic Storm

Actress Debra Messing has voiced her concerns about New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani, who identifies as a socialist, regarding his management of a recent Arctic storm that has wreaked havoc on the streets for almost a week.

The Will & Grace star took to X to share her frustration, mentioning she had been stuck in a taxi for over an hour, unable to reach her appointment due to severe traffic jams caused by the storm.

“I’m in a taxi trying to get to an appointment. What should take 20 minutes has turned into an hour and 10 minutes. The roads are in terrible shape. It hasn’t snowed in five days, yet they’re still unplowed,” she expressed.

Messing also observed an ambulance that was delayed, its siren blaring.

“That poor ambulance is basically parked, its siren going non-stop. I really feel for anyone in need of urgent care. After living here for 15 years, I’ve never seen anything quite like this. Snowplows typically work around the clock to clear the city.”

While she didn’t directly name the mayor, her comments hinted at him.

“What has happened?” she rhetorically asked, adding, “New Yorkers, please bear with me.”

Messing, who is Jewish and has openly condemned the increase in anti-Semitic incidents following the October 7 attack on Israel, had previously criticized Mamdani during his campaign due to his controversial views regarding Israel.

Last November, on Election Day, he posted a meme to his 1.4 million Instagram followers, labeling the newly elected mayor as a “real communist jihadist.”

The meme, which originated from a Persian-Jewish account, quickly circulated on social media. It humorously depicted two candidates on a ballot—one simply labeled as “Democratic” and the other as “a real communist jihadist. A jihadist who literally quotes Karl Marx and hates America.”
