Kevin O’Leary Warns Celebrities About Political Speeches
Investor Kevin O’Leary, known from “Shark Tank,” recently addressed celebrities about making political statements during their performances. His comments come in response to Billie Eilish’s speech at the Grammy Awards, where she expressed strong views on politics. O’Leary mentioned to a news outlet that using the stage as a platform for political messages could alienate fans. He specifically noted that those in the political realm who are annoyed by such speeches might just stop buying their music.
O’Leary stated, “It’s not wise to say something foolish, because frankly, they might not be listening to you anymore.” This commentary followed Eilish’s declaration that “no one is illegal in stolen land,” a statement she made while accepting her Grammy for song of the year, during which she also criticized ICE and border policies.
The Tongva Tribe of Southern California responded to her remarks, expressing appreciation for having the opportunity to clarify what they felt were necessary points following Eilish’s words. They noted, “As Native Americans of the Los Angeles Basin, we understand that her home is on our ancestral lands. We value a public figure highlighting the history of this nation.” They mentioned having reached out to her team in hopes of fostering further dialogue.
O’Leary shared his thoughts on the situation, suggesting that perhaps some celebrity figures are forgetting their roots. He quipped that in “Celebrity 101,” stars should either speak carefully or focus on enjoying their success rather than engaging in politically charged conversations.
