NFL Players Share Mixed Reactions to Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show
NFL players have expressed a range of opinions about Bad Bunny’s upcoming halftime performance at the Super Bowl.
A survey by The Athletic, conducted between December 11 and January 5, involved 58 anonymous NFL players. The results showed that around 59% were in favor of Bad Bunny’s performance, while 41% weren’t. The report included some notable player comments, highlighting the division in opinions.
Interestingly, while Bad Bunny hails from Puerto Rico, he is also an American citizen. This detail was added by The Athletic in an editor’s note after the survey. In addition, the outlet acknowledged that certain players were excluded from the estimates for not meeting “standards.” The Daily Caller reached out to The New York Times regarding a retracted quote related to this.
One NFC player remarked, “I don’t even know who Bad Bunny is. I feel like it should be someone American. It seems like they’re pushing too hard for an international angle.”
Another player voiced a similar sentiment, stating, “I prefer people who are tied to football and its culture. There are plenty of artists out there who love the game.”
In support of Bad Bunny, one player noted, “I’m not familiar with him, but I noticed he’s the top streaming artist globally. It makes sense to aim for a wider audience; it’s good for ratings.”
However, there were fans of the choice. An NFL defensive end shared, “I’ve heard his music, but I’m not a huge fan since I don’t speak Spanish. Still, I think it’s a positive reflection of America’s diversity and immigrant roots. I appreciate this choice.”
Another player said, “This is pretty cool. I’ve heard some of his tracks in Florida during training, and they’re enjoyable.”
One NFC player chimed in, “Yeah, it’s gonna be a great time. Girls like Bad Bunny, so we’ll get on board too.”
Another AFC player added, “It’s a bit different, but I appreciate a mix-up and exploring various music genres.”
When asked about their dream halftime acts, 13 players picked the late Michael Jackson, 11 chose Drake, and four mentioned Beyoncé. Other artists, including Creed and George Strait, received a couple of mentions each.
One player suggested, “We need to get George Strait in the lineup, possibly followed by Chris Stapleton, especially after his great national anthem performance.”
A petition requesting to replace Bad Bunny with Strait has collected over 120,000 signatures, indicating substantial support for the country music legend.
