Trump and Xi Jinping Discuss Relations and Upcoming Visit

President Donald Trump mentioned on Wednesday that he had a conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping covering various topics. These included the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and he emphasized that the relationship between the two nations is “very good.” Trump believes this rapport will lead to “many positive results” in the future.

During their discussion, they also touched on Trump’s anticipated visit to Beijing in April, which Xi expressed he was “extremely” looking forward to.

In a statement, Trump said, “I just finished a great phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which we talked about trade, military matters, my upcoming visit to China (which I’m genuinely excited about!), Taiwan, the war in Ukraine and Russia, the situation with Iran, and China’s imports of oil and gas from us. We also discussed their soybean purchases—how many important topics were covered! They have committed to a significant increase in agricultural purchases this season, totaling 25 million tons, with an additional commitment for the next season. Discussions included aircraft engine deliveries and quite a few other positive topics!”

Interestingly, he also warned the UK about potential risks of doing business with China after a meeting with UK leader Keir Starmer in Beijing.

“Our relationship with China and my personal relationship with President Xi is very good, and we recognize how crucial it is to sustain this connection,” he added. “I have faith that notable progress will be made in relations with President Xi and China through the next three years of my term.”

On the same day, Xi announced that he had a separate call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
