Protester Arrested in Los Angeles Anti-ICE Demonstration

A man involved in an anti-ICE protest in downtown Los Angeles last weekend is currently held on a $150,000 bail, as detailed in court documents. Jose Guillen, 27, faces charges for allegedly using a slingshot to launch a metal object at police during the demonstration.

Guillen was charged with two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon against police officers, along with one count of felony criminal damage to property, for damage exceeding $400. This information comes from the court filings related to the incident that took place on Friday.

According to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department, Guillen reportedly used a slingshot to target officers who were in formation during the protest. He is accused of assaulting two officers and damaging an LAPD patrol car’s windshield, leading to significant damage.

As of Wednesday, Guillen remains at the Los Angeles Inmate Reception Center. His attorney has not yet commented on the situation.

In total, many protesters were arrested during the anti-ICE rallies that unfolded across Los Angeles over the weekend. Reports indicate that fifty individuals, including three juveniles, were detained for not dispersing from a violent gathering downtown. Additionally, one protester was arrested for fleeing from police, while another faced charges for damaging a vehicle.

There was also an arrest of a juvenile protester on Saturday night after being suspected of assaulting a security officer with a deadly weapon. A police spokesperson mentioned that another minor threw a rock at a police cruiser during the chaos.

Facing serious charges, Guillen’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 18, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
