Shooting Incident in Cambridge, Massachusetts

A man with a criminal background opened fire at random vehicles along a road in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Monday before he was shot and killed by police, according to authorities and news sources.

Bystander footage showed the gunman, described as behaving erratically, firing a rifle and striking cars as he traversed Memorial Drive around 1:30 p.m.

Massachusetts State Police responded swiftly, engaging with the suspect, later identified as Tyler Brown. He had been scheduled for a parole meeting that day, partly due to concerns about his welfare stemming from his extensive criminal history.

Emergency services arrived to treat at least one person for gunshot wounds, though it’s unclear if that individual was the gunman. Reports indicated that police initially sought Brown at his home in Dorchester but found him missing.

One driver recounted the chilling experience, stating that he ducked inside his vehicle when bullets started flying, with one striking his radiator and another hitting his friend’s car. After peeking out, he noticed Brown holding a weapon.

A woman driving a small school van, on her way to pick up special needs children, described how she and another woman escaped into the bushes amid the chaos. One of them, visibly shaken, recalled sprinting away in panic.

Court records revealed that Brown’s criminal past spanned over two decades, including an incident in which he fired at a Boston police officer in 2020. Though prosecutors recommended a lengthy sentence of 10 to 12 years, he ultimately received a much lighter sentence of five to six years, which he served before being released on probation.

Local police maintained a presence at the scene throughout the evening, advising residents to avoid the area while affirming there was no ongoing threat to public safety.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey expressed her concern and urged people to stay clear of the vicinity to allow emergency personnel to manage the situation effectively.

She also extended gratitude to the first responders who acted promptly to ensure public safety.

As of now, Massachusetts State Police have not provided additional comments regarding the incident.
