Ellen DeGeneres Embraces Life in the English Countryside
Ellen DeGeneres has been enjoying a cozy life away from California for over a year now, having traded the sunny state for a farm in the English countryside.
Recently, she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, invested in a $27 million mansion in Montecito, a place they still hold dear, but it seems their stay there may be brief. Sources have indicated to Fox News Digital that the couple plans to spend just the winter in Southern California; their return is said to be “temporary.”
“Ellen and Portia have really fallen for the Cotswolds and are eager to return to the UK,” noted a source.
Missing California
Since moving, DeGeneres and de Rossi have been missing the Californian climate and, as some reports suggest, the vibrant horse scene. “Portia really enjoys polo and horses,” a source mentioned.
Some locals in the Cotswolds remarked that they haven’t spotted DeGeneres for quite a while. One local said she was frequently seen during the summer, but her presence has been scarce lately. “She always appeared friendly, but nobody really approached her; after all, she’s just a celebrity,” they added.
Making a Permanent Move
Back in August 2024, DeGeneres, age 68, and de Rossi let go of their old Montecito home as part of this transition. The couple’s initial idea was to enjoy a part-time adventure abroad, but everything changed dramatically after the 2024 U.S. elections, prompting them to solidify their stay in the UK.
“We arrived the day before the election, and when I woke up the following morning, my phone was blowing up with messages from friends. It was a lot of crying emojis,” she recalled during an interview with broadcaster Richard Bacon. “In that moment, we realized we were here to stay.”
While DeGeneres tends to keep her life in England somewhat private, she still shares snapshots of her farm life on social media, revealing snippets of her new daily routine.
Adjusting to a new lifestyle
“It’s absolutely gorgeous here,” she said, expressing her admiration. “We weren’t accustomed to this kind of beauty; the villages, the architecture, everything feels charming. It’s clean, and the way animals are treated here is heartwarming. I love it.” She went on to share her surprise at having never seen snow before moving there. “It wasn’t the best time to move, but we enjoy it immensely. Portia even brings her horses over, and I’ve got chickens now. We had sheep for a couple of weeks too.”
Rosie O’Donnell, another prominent figure in the entertainment industry, conveyed her surprise upon hearing the reasons behind DeGeneres’s relocation to the UK. “I didn’t know Ellen had mentioned anything political before, so I was really taken aback when I found out she left due to Trump,” she admitted. O’Donnell, while noting their different experiences, wished DeGeneres peace and happiness in her new chapter.
